The Universe is sensuous and balanced both chemically and physically. It is sensuous in the sense that it is composed of balanced opposites, mysterious and beautiful to behold. Just take a look at the heavens above on a clear winter's night. Have you noticed that all of our compounds, both organic and inorganic are basically neutral? The entire universe is balanced in its own way. It might appear both violent and lifeless but in its entirety it is in a balanced state.
The universe is neutral but how so? For every feature of its existence there is an equal and opposite particle or force.
Every compound is neutral and balanced, a positive ion balances a negative ion, an electron balances a proton. The electrons whirling around the nucleus at the speed of light give both volume to and balance to our elements and compounds.
We have matter and dark matter. I wonder if dark matter has supplanted anti matter in our scientific lexicon. Over 2/3 of the mass of the universe is considered to be dark matter, postulated but never proven. Without the imposition of dark matter on the universe, it could not exist as we know it, a constantly expanding universe.
It seems everything in the universe is composed of equal and opposite ( sometimes contradictory ) counterparts. Life is also like that. It is composed of elements, compounds, both organic and inorganic all contained in a discrete cell with a specific function. Almost all life forms ( especially higher life forms ) are bisexual without which variety, vitality and the health of any particular life form cannot be sustained.
Male and female. One without the other and the species perishes. I look upon the woman as the nucleus ( protons and neutrons ) of the family about which the man (electron - ) whirling about creating the volume and space for which the family is to survive. The women provides the stability and the man by dint of his energy the living space which his family requires. The man provides the house and the woman the home.
The more one looks at it, one perceives that the world as we know it, given the conditions and timing of its creation, had to be. Life is ever present in the universe, very tenacious and a force to be reckoned with. Had we the means and knowledge, we could find it almost everywhere. I theorize that given the positive and negative aspects of the universe, life with its bisexual nature had to be.

911, A Taste of Humanity
My Grandson Yisroel was missing. I placed the call to 911 about 6:30 PM April 13, 2017. The gentleman was patient and asked me to identify the lost child, his location age and appearance. I told him the location at Round Hill Park but it was not on his map. I then informed him it was opposite the water park and he was able to get a location.
Now it starts to get interesting. Within 5 minutes the first police officer arrived from Elizabeth, PA and took charge. He asked us to identify Yisroel, fortunately I had just taken a picture of Yisroel an hour before which the officer was able to copy. Within another 10 minutes two Canine Units arrived and an additional 3 to 4 police units as well. Ten minutes more and two fire engines, a truck loaded with all terrain vehicles an ambulance and a bus/truck that was used as a support center. A helicopter with infrared capabilities would also be available if necessary.
Two families who were very familiar with the park also offered their services and were active as well. They stayed to the very end. There was probably at least 24 professional officers from the surrounding communities and Allegheny County
The Canine Units went out but they came back empty. They did not have a good scent of Yisroel to follow. It was getting dark now, but fortunately the fire trucks had lighting capability and were able to light up the immediate area. We were really getting worried. It was dark and the temperature was dropping.
Then about 8:30 PM Yisroel was found by a fireman just a couple hundred feet from us. All was well. The police, fire and support units gradually left and by 9 PM the park was suddenly very dark and silent.
It was amazing how all these people came together to help us. We don't know their names but they all came together and worked as a team to find a lost child. We thanked them but I wish we could do more. I have sometimes despaired of Humanity but seeing how all these caring and concerned individuals came together to help us, complete strangers, was very enlightening and uplifting.
Thank You All!!!!

Election Results 2016 No Trump Signs
The failure of the media to forecast the results of the 2016 Presidential Election can be summed up in three words, "No Trump Signs."
The failure of the media to connect with the people is simple.
Freedom from fear:
Freedom that your election signs will not be stolen or and destroyed.
Freedom that attached property will not be abused and or defaced.
Freedom that people will not be maligned for their political beliefs.
Maligned means:' ":defame, slander, libel, blacken someone's name/character, smear, vilify."
People will not parade their political opinions if they will be subjected to ridicule, possible property damage and/or physical abuse.
If people will not express their views because of possible negative reactions, there is no way that predictions can be made in regard to elections that can be meaningful.

Canoe Safety
I have a 15 foot Pelican Canoe and I was
wondering about stability. I took it out with my son recently to run
some tests to increase stability of the canoe.
With two people in the canoe its is best to use as suggested with the heavier person in the rear.Attached is a link which I found that might be helpful. Increasing x p will move the center of mass to the right.

Uber Diary
I thought that I might try something a little bit different for anyone who wants or is a Uber driver.
March 21, 2016
Interesting day.
I am gradually learning my way around downtown. Usually if I have to drop someone off
downtown, I go off line and head for better areas.
The GPS doesn’t work very well in the downtown area,
giving inconsistent directions
One problem is that businessmen have little patience
and will cancel at the drop of a hat. It
often looks that I am nearby but actually I am not positioned correctly or am
dropping off a previous rider. The app
lets me accept a ride within 2 minutes of my present rider’s destination, which
is not necessarily within 2 minutes of the next rider.
Interesting phenomena:
When I receive 2 or more requests simultaneously what do you do? Hit the accept button and go where the GPS
tells you.
Multiple destinations for pick up is another serious
problem. I received a request for pickup
at the Fairmount Hotel, the app changed
it to 5 th Ave before picking up the rider on Wood St.
I had 4 cancellations and refused 4 requests. I don’t accept any rides over 8 minutes.
March 22, 2016
I accepted a request for 12 minutes to test my theory
of not accepting requests over 8 minutes.
The app immediately upped it to 15 minutes. When I picked up the rider, I was told to go
to a school 10 minutes away. It then
took me 15 minutes to return home for a total time of 42 minutes for a fare of
$4.20.
Hang the acceptance rate.
I don’t recommend driving full time. It is physically and emotionally draining.
It is best to drive only when there is surge pricing,
which means you cannot drive whenever it is convenient for you. I will drive from 8AM to sunset during surge
pricing only, for a total of 2 to 3 hours at most.
You have to generate at least $15/Hour in
Pittsburgh. Watch your mileage and
record it every day for tax purposesFriday, September 4, 2015
Food Safety
I have been in the food industry for 20 years, so I know a little about food safety and personal hygiene. Here is a list of some good habits to get into:
1. Washing hands for at least 20 seconds prior to the preparation of food with soap and water( it doesn't have to be hot water as that might cause damage, cracking of the skin, where bacteria might hide). It also doesn't hurt to repeat this procedure every so often especially when changing from one type of food to another ie fish, dairy or meat to vegetable.
2. Cross contamination can occur when you are preparing foods of a different nature ie vegetable, fish, fowl, red meat and dairy. So wash your hands and utensils in between.
3. It is always better to pour from a container rather than use a spoon or your hands. If not, make sure that the utensils that you are using are clean. Once removed from a container, never return the food to its original container. Use a separate container if necessary. A rule of thumb, 2 hours at room temperature and throw the food out.
3a. Date all containers. Depending on the nature of the food, the food has a lifespan of 3 to 5 days.
3b. Remember that the longer a food is kept out at room temperature the shorter its lifespan. You might have less than 3 days lifespan as a result.
4. Use a large enough spoon to convey food so that you don't have to use your hand to stabilize it.
5. It is best not to put hot food in the refrigerator. Cool the food as quickly as possible in cold water and put it the smallest containers as possible to maximize circulation in the refrigerator or freezer.
6. It is best not to over stuff your refrigerator or freezer as this this prevents the proper cooling and or freezing and may lead to food spoilage or worse.
6a. The refrigerator should be kept at about 39 degrees F. Invest in a thermometer or two.
6b. A word of caution on the operation of your refrigerator or freezer, if you attempt to to keep them too cold, it will prevent the defrost cycle from operating properly.
6c. Try to keep refrigerator and freezer doors open as little as possible. If you have to spend too much time with the doors open, it means that your refrigerator/freezer is overstuffed and poorly organized. Don't do prep work from the refrigerator with the door open. Remove the items that you wish to work with and process them outside the confines of an open refrigerator.
7. Hot food temperature must be maintained above 140 degrees F to prevent the proliferation of bacteria.
8. Never eat and keep talking to a minimum, while you are preparing food as this will spread the spittle from your mouth with its accompanying bacteria.
9. Never attempt to prepare so much food that it will stay at room temperature in excess of half an hour.
10. " Stomach viruses" are often mistaken for food poisoning. If your family receives an inordinate number of "stomach viruses" check your food handling and procedures.
11. To be continued.

Canoeing
There is not a lot to mention about canoeing as far as excitement is concerned, it is just good exercise, fresh air and beautiful surroundings.
However, Tuesday, August 25, 2015 about 6 PM changed all that.
I was canoeing on the other side of the lake opposite the South Shore on Lake Arthur when the canoe suddenly capsized. There was no wind, the water was almost glass like barely a ripple evident. It just felt like something grabbed a hold of it and flipped it over.
My wife said that the bow of the boat was high in the air when I left shore earlier, which meant that the canoe inherently was in an unstable situation.
I did everything wrong that day. The clothing that I wore, mostly nylon could not be shed. It wrapped around my body like armor threatening to take me under. As a result I couldn't swim to shore but sensibly clung to the canoe and shouted for help. Stupidly, I was not wearing a life jacket which could have made my situation a lot less precarious.
I shouted for help but no one was near by and could hear me. They couldn't see me because my canoe was green and blended in with the surrounding terrain.
My grandson Mendel finally spotted me after I was 10 minutes in the water and he told his father Yaakov who immediately knew what to do. He launched our inflatable kayak and rescued me about 10 minutes later pulling me to shore.
A sailing vessel near by helped by gathering the canoe and all the other floating debris and brought it to shore.
The whole episode totaled less than an hour but it has changed my life and I will probably recognize it more so in the days ahead.
I am very appreciative to those people who came to my assistance especially Mendel who noticed my distress and to Yaakov for coming to my assistance in a timely fashion and knew exactly what to do.
In the days ahead I expect to learn how to dress more appropriately while on the water, always wear a life jacket and possibly replace my canoe with one more readily visible. I will also be looking for more safety tips and advice. There is a small air horn with a compressed air canister which you can buy and to attach to your person which can allow someone to at least hear you.
The canoe itself was not buoyant and the seats( flotation part of the canoe) rapidly filled with water, another 20-30 minutes and it would have gone under.
After canoeing for 30 years I received a wake up call to safety on the water (don't take it for granted) and to life (don't take it for granted) either.
