Have you ever noticed that your perspective on life changes with time and circumstances?
Going back just two hundred years, slavery was accepted by most of the world. Today it is frowned upon by most of the "civilized" world. However it is still prevalent in much of the world today. Tens of millions are kept in actual slavery or bondage and the number is increasing due to political factors, economics, industrialization, poverty and even climate change.
Just two hundred years ago, physicians and surgeons were still using leeches, mercury(for medical treatment) and did not recognize cleanliness as a requirement for a healthy medical practice. We have come a long way since then. We have other problems.
Two hundred years ago another solution/problem arose: vaccines. Politicians seem to love simple solutions to a problem, no matter the cost. Vaccines were an answer to a politicians dream. No matter what havoc occurred with the introduction of the small pox vaccine, they went blindly ahead. They took figures and statistics morphed them into rosy statistics that indicated the small pox vaccine worked, disregarding that the increase in mortality of small pox always seemed to correlate to its use. Only the use of quarantine and sanitizing caused the smallpox epidemic to abate.
If you want to decrease disease and pestilence, there is only one way: Sanitation, hygiene, clean water and air, good wholesome food, healthy working conditions and an overall environment that is free of chemicals and pollutants. Not simple, so politicians disregard it. To be continued.
